Cooper Tires Joins the Champ Car Atlantic Series

Champ Car AtlanticsThe Atlantic Championship welcomes new series presenting sponsor and exclusive tire supplier Cooper Tire into the Champ Car family in '07. Teaming with Mazda North American Operations, which came on board as an Atlantic partner this past season, the new-look Cooper Tires Presents The Champ Car Atlantic Championship Powered by Mazda will offer a challenging slate of events designed to test the skills of up-and-coming racers from across the globe.

Forsythe Partners with Red Bull

Forsythe Championship Racing will partner with Red Bull, the world's #1 Red Bull Champ Carenergy drink, that brings two of North America's most promising young drivers to Team Forsythe for an all-out attack on the 2007 edition of the Champ Car Atlantic Championship Powered by Mazda. 

15 year-old American sensation John Edwards and 17 year-old Canadian prodigy Robert Wickens, both products of the Red Bull Junior Team program, have joined the Forsythe squad with primary sponsorship from Red Bull. 


Condor Motorsports signed talented driver Junior Strous, from The Netherlands, to compete for the team in the 2007 Cooper Tires Presents The Champ Car Atlantic Championship Powered by Mazda. The 20-year-old racer has excelled in challenging open-wheel series over the past several seasons. After racing in Formula Ford and Formula BMW competition in 2002, Strous drove in Fran-Am and Formula Renault in his native Netherlands in 2003. He also captured the Formula Renault 2000 Winter Invitational in 2004 and raced in the Formula Renault Eurocup in both 2005 and '06.


Champ CarWalker Racing has signed a multi-year contract with  Formula BMW USA driver, Simona De Silvestro, who will join the team's three car line up for the 2007 Champ Car Atlantic Championship.
De Silvestro, a native of Lausanne, Switzerland, is the second woman to race for the team and joins a list of drivers that have competed for Walker Racing. The young woman really made an impression on the team.  "We are very happy to have Simona on board with us for next season.  I was able to watch her compete in the Formula BMW races this year and was very impressed with her talent and then we tested Simona at MSR in Houston where she did very well. We are looking forward to having her on board for the 2007 season," Walker Racing owner Derrick Walker.

Newman Wachs Racing Taps J.R. Hildebrand As Driver for 2007

The 2006 Cooper Tires Formula Ford 2000 series champion J.R. Hildebrand will join Newman Wachs Racing for the 2007 season in the Atlantic Championship.
J.R. Hildebrand brings a very impressive record to the NWR Atlantic team after shattering the record for most wins for a season in the Cooper Tire FF 2000 series with twelve in '06. The 18-year-old native of Sausalito, California made his Atlantic debut for the NWR squad at the '06 season finale at Road America. "Eddie [Wachs] has given me a lot of opportunities this year and I am really grateful for that.  He is a super guy, and I will be pushing 100% all the time to bring him some hardware," said Hildebrand.


Bringing championship-winning experience and a wealth of racing knowledge, Genoa Racing announced that it will field a two-car effort in the 2007 Atlantic Championship.

The announcement serves as a homecoming for the Genoa team, owned by Angelo Ferro, as the squad returns to the Atlantic Championship after competing in the series in the early 90s. Former Atlantic driver and longtime successful open-wheel racing engineer Thomas Knapp will serve as team manager and lead engineer on the reconfigured Genoa squad, while former Champ Car champion and Atlantic standout, as well as current Champ Car PKV Racing co-owner, Jimmy Vasser will be a team consultant.
