Neel Jani to #21 PVK Car With Red Bull
Jani, 23, a native of Jens, Switzerland, spent the 2006 season as a test driver for the Scuderia Toro Rosso Formula 1 team and competed in four GP2 races plus four A1 GP events taking the win and finishing fourth in Malaysia. A member of the Red Bull driver development program since 2005, Jani will pilot the #21 Red Bull PKV Racing Cosworth/Panoz/Bridgestone machine this year.
"We are very excited to have a driver of Neel's caliber join PKV Racing," said PKV Racing co-owner Jimmy Vasser. "Neel has been competitive at every level during his racing career and I am looking forward to helping him through the learning curve during his inaugural Champ Car season."
Genoa Racing Signs 2006 Star Mazda Champion Adrian Carrio
Genoa Racing announced today that 2006 Star Mazda Champion, Adrian Carrio, will pilot the #17 entry in the 2007 Cooper Tires Presents The Champ Car Atlantic Championship Powered by Mazda.
While most people spend their 18th birthday with friends, enjoying the moment, for Adrian "Ace" Carrio it was a chance to show his commitment to racing. He spent his birthday at the Genoa Racing shop in Indianapolis, touring the facility and meeting team personnel. He signed an agreement that will see him run his rookie Champ Car Atlantic campaign with the newly re-formed team. Carrio comes to Genoa Racing hot on the heels of an impressive sophomore season in the hotly-contested Star Mazda Championship.
CHAMP CAR WORLD SERIES UNVEILS NEW LOGO FOR 2007 SEASON
The Champ Car World Series enters a new era in 2007 with six new venues, a number of new drivers and the brand-new Panoz DP01 chassis. To go along with the new-look series, Champ Car today unveiled its new logo that will be featured prominently on the cars, the driver and official uniforms as well as the new-look television package.
CHAMP CAR WORLD SERIES ANNOUNCES THE ADDITION OF TWO EUROPEAN EVENTS TO THE 2007 CALENDAR
The Champ Car World Series today announced that it will return to Europe for the first time since 2003 with inaugural races in Holland and Belgium. Events added to the Champ Car World Series calendar will take place September 2 at the TT Circuit in Assen, Holland and September 9 at the Zolder circuit in Belgium. It will be the first time that Champ Car has raced in either of the two European nations.
FORD MOTOR COMPANY ENDS ITS RELATIONSHIP WITH THE SERIES
Ford did not renue its partnership with Champ Car. Bridgestone also failed to renue its sponsorship. The world did not end and the season will continue.
JUSTIN SOFIO TO RETURN AS DRIVER FOR MATHIASEN
Mathiasen Motorsports has announced that Justin Sofio will return as its driver in a one-car effort for the 2007 season. Mathiasen Motorsports, owned by Ray Mathiasen, returns for its third year of competition in the Atlantic Championship after winning the 2005 C2 Atlantic title and then moving up to a much higher level of competition and a new race car in 2006.
"Although our success on the race track in 2006 did not match our first year in the series, it did exceed my expectations given how competitive this series has become. I was pleased with the knowledge we gained as to what will be necessary for us to achieve our goal of being able to compete against the top teams and drivers in the 2007 Championship," said Mathiasen.
